Let’s face it: losing is not exactly a thrilling experience. It’s not like anyone walks away from a defeat shouting, “Oh yay, I failed!”
However, as the master of perspective and positivity that I am, I want to present you with a brilliant twist: losing is victorious! It’s glorious, wonderful, and most of all, it’s courageous. Losing means we had the guts to try, to take part, and to give it our all. Or maybe we didn’t give it our all. Maybe we gave it our worst shot. Either way, I’m inclined to say that even that beats not doing anything at all.
I want to keep it real here. You might never win. No matter how hard you try, you might have to come to terms with the fact that, like the vast majority of the population, you’re totally and utterly average. Please don’t hate me for saying this. I’m average too! And do you know what? I’m cool with that.
I’m not trying to put you off. Quite the contrary. I’m trying to put you on! On to a path of living with curiosity and an innocent, uninfluenced desire to follow your dreams – even if it means failing. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: If you never try, you’ll never know. What is the very worst that could happen?
Look. Nobody looks back and says ‘I wish I’d never tried.’ Being the best at being the worst beats never being anything at all. So please be the contestant that comes in last, as opposed to an actual loser who never dares to step off the sidelines.
Be wild. Be free. And be brave. This, after all, might be your only chance. And what a beautiful chance it is.
